Although the residential care of vulnerable children at the Wat Opot Children’s Community has been terminated, the follow-up work with the children continues… but it is no longer under the umbrella of Partners in Compassion-Cambodia. A new Organization has been formed to take over the administration and funding of ongoing programs that assist those children who were reintegrated back into the community.

In the Khmer language, SAHAKA means cooperation or coworking. It is the goal of the Sahaka Foundation Organization (SFO) to work closely with the families and communities of vulnerable children in Cambodia, providing food, clothing, and educational supplies, as needed, to the families. Support is provided on condition children remain in school and can provide satisfactory reports from their teachers. Experience has taught us that one of the most effective ways to improve the living conditions of the poor is to educate the children. We are starting with the Watopotians who have been returned to their families. Today was Mr. Dara’s first day out as the new SFO Executive Director.

Some of the children in the pictures above are Watopotians but it is apparent that other children, who live in the same households with their grandmothers, will also benefit from the SFO monthly support. During our visit, we were told of another needy family in this community that could also use our support. They were given Mr. Dara’s number and will be evaluated when funds become available.
For those sponsoring children through the Wat Opot Children’s Fund please know that all sponsored children will continue to receive their monthly payments for as long as there are funds in their accounts. SFO is a continuation of the old WOCC and can be funded through the www.wocf.us website by earmarking your donation for General or SFO funds. For local transfer of funds, please contact Mr. Dara at Tel: 096-644-4474.
Thank You for your interest and support.
