POSSIBILITIES

I thought it was time to update everyone on the progress of the SAHAKA Foundation. The future is not clear yet, but doors are being opened, and we are checking out the possibilities as we continue to make home visits with the children who were transitioned after Wat Opot closed its doors. The day-care center in Prey Veng is doing well and Dara and I visit it a couple of times every month, usually for 3 or 4 days at a time.

We also make day trips to see several of the transitioned children in Takeo. Most are doing well but some are not. In those cases, we try to find a solution. This past week we convinced two of the boys, who were not going to school, to allow social services to place them in a group home, where they will be better supervised. Hopefully, that will be done next week.

HOME VISIT

And when I am in Phnom Penh there are visits to my home. Former residents, some with their partners and children, and even former volunteers have visited.

Upcoming events include a possible Christmas Eve get-together on my rooftop, a trip to Pursat Province this weekend to evaluate the conditions there at the request of Social Service, and a trip back to Wat Opot to discuss with community leaders the possibility of starting a new program there. Will keep you updated on our progress.

Thanks for taking the time to read this far. For those who would like to help out with some of these expenses, you can visit the new SAHAKA FOUNDATION website.
