A FULL WEEK

This has been a busy week for me. I have moved into my new, comfortable, airy, 3rd-floor apartment at 102, 456 Street, Phnom Penh. It feels like home to me and a good place to meet with Wat Opot alumni and old friends.

On Tuesday we handed out toothpaste, donated by the Sun and Moon Riverside Hotel, along with toothbrushes and bath soap, purchased through SAHAKA funds, to several children in the Takeo area…

On Wednesday we traveled to Prey Veng and continued handing out hygiene supplies to the SAHAKA Foundation students.

We stayed until late Friday evening because, while I sat watching the children study on Wednesday morning, it started to rain and everyone had to move their desks to stay dry.

I discussed the problem with Mr. Dara and he called one of his contractor friends to give us some suggestions. We agreed on a solution and a price and work began immediately… starting with the removal of a Coconut tree that stood in the way.

To my surprise and delight, things got put together, much faster than I had expected…

and by Friday evening, as we prepared to leave for Phnom Penh, the work crew was putting the finishing touches on the project.

and by the way, the bathrooms are also finished and it is now possible for Westerners like me to sit, shower, and shave in comfort.
